Norma Greenwood Art
My daily bicycle commute from Jackson Heights to my LIC studio. prompted my paintings of the old factories that represent the neighborhood's history.
I was inspired by the romance of the quiet streets and small factories, the secret no-name bakeries that supply fancy cakes and pastries for upscale Manhattan restaurants. Factories built long ago by now forgotten entrepreneurs- the visible manifestations of "The American Dream". They are poignant reminders of the cross-section of social, industrial economic, and cultural dynamics that made this neighborhood so unique.
